Miguel Puente & Sishi Rosch AKA Puente & Rosch (Sultry Vibes | No 19 | Digital Delight | Lower East ) feature on our fourth podcast in the series and is available as a free download.
We are honoured to feature the original 21st century, modern house gangsters. Already perfecting their own genre, what people like to describe as “Futuristic – Gangsta House”. What can we say about these two… when you mix 2 artists as talented as Miguel & Sishi, you simply get amazing results. G-sh*t!
Interview: ‘Puente & Rosch’, where, when and how did this partnership begin? (S)
S: well, we basically met through a mutual friend about 3 years ago after a DD party here in Barcelona. We instantly connected and identified with each other, and began to start producing and playing gigs together. We instantly hit it off and well, the rest is history. We have very similar taste in music and way of thinking, were both geminis, maybe thats why. Our Puente & Rosch project is something we really enjoy developing, we are very comfortable making music together. We like to keep a low profile, but the people that know us, are really getting into our sound.
People like to describe your style as, ‘futuristic gangsta house’, and with the latest ‘West Coast Feel’ EP their not too wrong. What influences do you both draw upon to create this unique style of music?
M: Our biggest influence for what we do is definitely west coast hip hop artists like easy e, too short, dre… , breaks, rnb, but also forward thinking house and techno. We really like raw lyrics and explicit content, we actually have had problem signing a track that apparently it can be offensive…
Is this unique style something you try to carry through in your DJ sets together? (S)
S: absolutely. when we play together, we mostly play our own stuff and our friends tracks as well. We don’t really plan our sets, but our music styles are very similar, we make very similar type of music as well, so that helps out a lot; then again Miguel has his own unique style of mixing and I have mine, but for some reason our sets seem to flow very nicely together.
How gangsta is the mix you have done for the Purp & Soul Podcast? (S)
S: well basically, the mix is composed of a lot of our tracks, some unreleased and some released already, and of course we have also put some of the tracks that we are influenced by and other old gems that we like to play out, the mix pretty much defines exactly our sound and what we like. I guess its a bit Gangsta
Soul Clap & Wolf + Lamb featured ‘West Coast Feel’ in their greatest tour hits mix, and also included your track ‘Serious Compassion’ in their ‘Soul –Clap Social Experiments 002’. How does it feel to have such big names supporting your music?
M: I think this is how our names started getting out there, because we got some really good support from artists that are doing big things at the moment, so we are really happy and proud that our work is being recognized by people who are influencing the whole scene we work in.
Sishi, we know you very keen into the business aspect of the music, co-founding Digital Delight and with a degree in business administration and marketing. How have you managed to use this knowledge to grow Digital Delight as a brand? (S)
S: yeah, I come from a very business savvy family, and have always had interest in having my own company. After graduating from Uni, I decided to start DD with my mates and really focused on making music and trying to expand DD as a label. 2 years later we opened our sister label sultry vibes, who knew we would be where we are right now. I do have to say that I have had loads of help from my close friends and family. Hope things start growing even more
We love the latest two EP’s on the label, ‘Hundred Trys’ & ‘Up In Smoke’ is there any more releases we should be looking out for on the label? (S)
S: cheers! yeah we really like how this 2 ep’s came out, really top work from Nobody knows, Miguel as usual and our boy Jonny Cruz who is ace as well.
our next ep is a joint ep from Puente & Rosch with our good mates Death On The Balcony. We are remixing one of their tracks and they are doing the same with one of ours; 4 track ep. We are really excited for this one. I don’t want to say more cause I don’t want to spoil the surprise
Miguel, you have huge remixes on both of those EP’s as well as incredible mix on No.19 of ‘Modern Amusement – Cold As Ice’, what is your trick to a great remix?
M: No trick’s at all but the more i like to the track im remixing the better i work on it because it just flows more naturally. its always good to try to work in the same tonality if you have some important tools from the original that you are using.
We’re visiting you in Barcelona in a few weeks for a couple of Digital Delight parties, what should we anticipate while over there?
M: Im playing with Rob James on Sept 3th in Becool (one of the finest clubs here in Barcelona) for what should be a really good party because everybody comes back from holidays so thats the first weekend, at the end the party on sept 10th was canceled.
Finally, what can we expect from ‘Puente & Rosch’ for the rest of the year both as a pairing and individually?
S: Well, as Puente & Rosch we have quite a few gigs together coming up, London, Leicester, Ibiza, Manchester and more. We have been getting quite a few amount of booking offers lately which we are really happy for, so we’ll see what other places we will go to. Release-wise we have an upcoming ep on Lower East which we are really excited for, expect a remix by the guys behind the label; Cozzy D & Lee Brinx. We have a remix that is coming on vinyl on Hourglass Music sometime in the fall, we have some unreleased secret tracks that we might put out on digital delight or sultry vibes, we’ll see. We also are currently working on our new ep, don’t have any plans as of yet for it, but stay tuned…
S: I have quite a few releases coming up…have a track I made with my label mates Diego & Juan featured on One Records VA compilation coming out very soon, excited for that. An ep coming out in the fall on the awesome Get The Curse Music along with a remix I made for Alixander III from Azari & III also coming out on GTC soon. I have a couple of remixes coming out on vinyl for Vibe Me Record and also an ep that is coming out with them in the winter. An ep coming out on Matt Walsh’s label Clouded Vision with remixes by Darabi & Alex Jones. And lastly a remix i made for Wildkats coming out on Hourglass as well. Might be forgetting a track here and there, but thats pretty much it.
Oh yeah, and I am currently working on my new album which I will release in Sultry Vibes sometime in the early 2012.
M: I have a remix i just finished for Wildkats coming out soon, as for my ep’s im waiting still but the one on No.19 should be out this year, as well as more material.
